Hello, my name is Julia and I am a coffee addict!
I love coffee. I love the smell of hot coffee in the kitchen. I love the bitter-buttery taste of coffee. I love the never-wavering routine of adding a capsule of my Nespresso coffee to the machine and listening to the unmistakable sound and whirl and drip of Nespresso coffee into a mug every morning.
I’ve been a Nespresso fan for almost a decade now. My love affair with Nespresso started almost by accident. There was a big sale, my dad convinced me to buy it. I did not want to do that. I cannot imagine not having it in the kitchen now.
Over the years, I’ve given the gift of Nespresso to many friends and family members. I currently own three (yes, that’s right three) different Nespresso machines and have over 500 capsules in my pantry (yes, I counted).
I don’t drink my coffee black. Whether it’s espresso, americano, or brewed coffee, I like milk or cream in mine, never any sugar. I drink hot coffee in any weather, even when it’s hot and humid outside. It’s my tradition. A cup of Nespresso anchors my day.
But in the summer, aside from that hot mug of steaming coffee, I like to enjoy Affogato Coffee as well.
What is Affogato Coffee?
Let me start by saying that technically my Lemon Affogato Coffee isn’t a real affogato drink. Affogato is usually ice cream served with a shot of hot espresso poured over it.
Whether you want to call this drink (or even dessert) Lemon Affogato or Coffee with Lemon Ice Cream, the result is the same: pure and delicious heaven!
Ingredients to make Lemon Affogato Coffee
It may seem that lemon and coffee is an unusual combination. Indeed, it is not something common in North America.
However, coffee with lemon is quite popular in many other countries. In Russia, for example, whenever you served coffee or tea, there were three things offered: sugar, milk, and lemon. Drinking tea or coffee with lemon and a bit of sugar was a great and refreshing way to enjoy the beverage.
So, to make Lemon Affogato Coffee Drink you’ll need:
- Lemon
- Mint
- Sugar
- No Churn Lemon Ice Cream
- Nespresso coffee
How to make Lemon Affogato
Making this delicious and refreshing summer coffee dessert is actually really easy. You can enjoy this on-the go treat in under 5 minutes thanks to the convenience of Nespresso VertuoPlus Deluxe machine.
- Finely chop a few mint leaves.
- Zest half a lemon.
- Mix the chopped mint and lemon zest with granulated sugar.
- Rub a wedge of lemon over the rim of the glass and dip in the mint-lemon sugar to coat the rim.
- Make a delicious cup of your favourite Nespresso coffee in the prepared glass.
- Add one or two scoops of Lemon Ice Cream.
Enjoy this wonderful treat with a spoon, straw, or just drink from the glass. It’s creamy, smooth, refreshing, and delicious.
Variations for Lemon Affogato Coffee
This recipe isn’t an iced coffee. Cold ice cream when added to hot coffee starts melting and makes a rich and luscious coffee drink. However, you could totally use cold coffee as well, just cool your Nespresso coffee in the fridge and then add ice cream.
If you want to strictly abide by the definition of Affogato, then pour a shot or two of Nespresso espresso over a scoop of Lemon Ice Cream.
The most obvious variation is to use different flavour of Ice Cream. Try Raspberry or Coconut for refreshing summer flavours. Or for more rich and indulgent dessert, add some caramel or chocolate ice cream.
You can omit the lemon and mint sugar rim but it adds a little bit of fun flavour and texture to the drink.
For adults only: add a shot of limoncello to your coffee!
